Nanowrimo? + Baken Update

Hello again, so I have had alot of writers mention to me about a program called Nanorimo. I heard it's really fun for writers! Sources say it is something with National Novel writing month, but I don't really get the concept I'm a little new with things so I'm going to make this post really short.

Can anyone explain to me what nanorimo is? Feedback is appreciated :)

(Update on me: Proud to have eaten baken for breakfast, Luch and Dinner. Well I feel a little shame but my parents weren't home and I don't cook. comment if you have my same problems.)

  1. Nanowrimo is in November where it starts and ends in the month of November. You have to type up a story of 50,000 or some in the amount from Nov 1- the end of Nov.

  2. Sure. :)

As mentioned in the previous comment, it's an event traditionnally held from Nov 1st to Nov 30th, during which you have to write (at least) 50,000 words (and preferrably wrap up your story, too).

The founding idea behind NaNo, back in 1999-2000, was that a lot of people would like to write a novel "someday", but never give themselves the opportunity to, due to various factors. Among these are the lack of time and the Inner Editor (that part of yourself that makes you over-critical and has you polish up the same sentence/paragraph/chapter all over again—or, worse, not write at all—ending up in novels that never get completed at all). So the principle is that with only 30 days to write, and all the other demands of daily life to fulfill, you have no time to waste listening to your Inner Editor, and so you can write more freely.

NaNo works extremely well for some people, and not at all for others. I'm among the former. Being on a tight deadline infuses me with creativity, and I manage to write really fast, whereas I just idle about when I have all the time in the world to write. At the same time, contrary to what I thought at first, the writing I do in so little time is not unreadable drivel. I think that doing NaNo for several years has somewhat taught me to produce decent enough prose on the first attempt. (Not to mention that it put me on top of my English translation class, but that's the added bonus. ^_^)

  3. Other people have all ready explained it pretty well. It's held in November of every year and you try to write 50,000 words in 30 days, just to let that crappy first draft out.

If you're interested in doing NaNoWriMo, they have something called Camp NaNoWriMo. They just finished their June camp, but they're also doing Camp NaNo in August. So, from Aug. 1-31, you basically do the same thing and try to write 50,000 words in a month. The only difference is that there's no forums and you're put in a "cabin" (if you want to be in one) with other NaNo-ers. If you're interested in signing up, you can sign up here:

    Hope I helped. :)
